Goodyear rezones large area to allow for more industrial space

The Goodyear City Council has approved the rezoning of 2,283 acres to allow for more industrial and commercial uses.

The land is in the Lakin Park area south of MC 85 and north of the Gila River.

The land was previously zoned more for residential development.

Several landowners, including Lakin Cattle Company, asked the city to rezone the area allowing for more industrial projects and to expand amount of designated open space.

Lakin Cattle owns 750 acres in the Lakin Park area.

The zoning changes allow for 685 areas of the Lakin Park land to be zoned for industrial use, another 297 acres would be zoned for other business and commercial uses and open spaces would increase to more than 1,000 acres.

Under current zoning only 41 acres is zoned for commercial use and none is zoned for industrial.

Goodyear has seen some significant commercial development gains with data centers, including a large Microsoft campus, as well as manufacturing led by a new planned Nike plant.
