Rezoning requested, gymnastics training center proposed for Scottsdale costume shop site

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The city of Scottsdale is being asked to rezone a shopping center property near Granite Reef and McDonald Roads.

The property is currently home to Mardi Gras Costume Shop. The rezoning request would change the property’s zoning from a regional shopping center to a neighborhood commercial. That allows for a wider variety of uses at the 40,000-square-foot Scottsdale center.

Chad Klock and Robin Schaffers want to buy the property for health and fitness studio focused on gymnastics training. The current zoning does not allow that.

The commercial property was originally designed for a bank.  The costume rental store has been located there since the 1990s. It would close at that location upon purchase of the property.

The parcel is currently owned by the Candace and Donald Matteson Revocable Trust, according to city documents.
