The Chandler City Council will consider adopting a historic preservation district ordinance at its meeting on Monday, Nov. 2.

The ordinance allows property owners and neighborhoods to work with the East Valley city to create historic preservation districts.

The ordinance being considered by the council would also reconstitute Chandler’s Architectural Review Committee into a Historic Preservation Commission.

The proposed moves stem from efforts by residents in Chandler’s Silk Stocking to preserve the character of their neighborhood.

The Silk Stocking District is located near Arizona Avenue and Chandler Boulevard.

The measure would also create a historic preservation officer position and create a city register of historic properties and places.
