Marijuana smokers in Surprise may not have to drive to El Mirage, Sun City or further to buy pot-laced products in the future.
Recreational marijuana establishments will be allowed to open up in Surprise, although the Surprise City Council is saying no to stand-alone pot shops.
That was the decision the council reached Nov. 17, two weeks after Arizona voters approved the “Smart and Safe Arizona Act,” better known as Proposition 207.
The initiative passed by a little more than 20% of voters, or more than 650,000 votes across the state.
