Project to revitalize former Smitty’s property in Peoria stalls

Over the past couple years, the city of Peoria and developers have made progress in working toward the revitalization of the downtown area.

However, a project planned to breathe life into a once blighted area has stalled.

City staff has recommended that Grand Commons, a proposed project on 7.5 acres at 85th and Grand avenues, where the former Smitty’s was located, be remanded back to the planning and zoning commission indefinitely, in essence, starting the entitlement process over.
