Kacy Cooper, a former prosecutor and Border Patrol section chief for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, has entered the 2022 race for Arizona attorney general.
Cooper is a Republican, and her campaign largely highlights a focus on law and order and immigration and border issues. The top three issues listed on her official campaign website emphasize her mission to protect the border, the constitution, and the police. Her campaign cites her career as an attorney as a key qualification for the position.
“Lacy fought against dangerous Mexican cartels who were trafficking drugs and humans into the United States and firearms and cash back to Mexico,” her website reads. “She prosecuted gang members who deteriorated the fabric of our local communities, and terrorists who took advantage of loopholes in the United States’ immigration system.”
Cooper has been a vocal critic of the Biden administration’s immigration policy, writing an op-ed for USA Today last month titled “I investigated coyotes, killers and cartel members. Biden’s border policy won’t keep us safe.”
