SRP outlines expansion plan to Coolidge council

COOLIDGE — Salt River Project executives working toward the Coolidge Expansion Project told the Coolidge City Council on Oct. 25 about the need for the project.

Coolidge Expansion Project Manager Bill McClellan said by 2025, if the Arizona Corporation Commission approves the project early next year, the expansion would generate 1,200 megawatts of energy that would be enough to provide electricity for 150,000 homes.

He said the expansion calls for 16 natural gas turbines, and he called it reliable, sustainable and affordable with eight of them being in operation by the summer of 2024 and the other eight coming online the following year.
