Republic Services changes proposed zoning for controversial transfer station

The proposed zoning for a controversial recycling and waste transfer station has been changed.

Waste management company Republic Services, the applicant for the WestWing Recycling and Transfer Facility, proposed near El Mirage Road and Loop 303, has resubmitted an application to change the zoning category from Industrial 2 to Industrial 3.

Maricopa County Planner Adam Cannon said this is a move to a less intensive industrial zoning category.

He said the IND-3 zoning district permits all industrial uses not specifically permitted in the other industrial zoning districts.
