After departing amid recession, developer returns to Phoenix with new office, ideas

After leaving Phoenix for Las Vegas during the Great Recession, Grand Canyon Development Partners is again opening a Phoenix office and intends to grow its development pipeline in the Valley.

Sam Nicholson, president of the development and project management company, said opening a new Phoenix office is like coming home for him, because he was born and raised in Phoenix, and started the company here in 2005. When the Great Recession hit, the company was working on developing the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. There were more opportunities to continue developing in Las Vegas, so the company left Phoenix and focused its efforts there.
