Republican candidate for Arizona governor Kari Lake repeatedly and without evidence claimed that fraud was taking place in this year’s election, saying at a campaign stop Monday that she was already “detecting some stealing going on.”
“I’m telling you right now, anybody trying to steal this, first of all, we’re already detecting some stealing going on, but you guys know I’m a fighter right?” she said at a conservative event in Anthem. “You haven’t seen me when they try to steal something. I’m gonna go supernova radioactive. We’re not gonna let them steal an election.”
In a nine minute speech to the North Valley Constitutional Republicans, Lake said four times that there was fraud or “stealing” detected in this year’s election. The right-wing grassroots group meets in Anthem and its founder claimed last year to have started a militia in Arizona. Video of Lake’s speech was posted on Rumble, a video sharing platform favored by conservative groups.
Lake’s campaign, which has focused on furthering former President Donald Trump’s unsubstantiated claims he won Arizona in 2020, didn’t answer specific questions Tuesday about what evidence she had to back up her claims. Meanwhile county elections officials have already widely debunked election misinformation from the state Republican party suggesting malfeasance with ballots.
A former Fox 10 news anchor, Lake took her firm stance after weeks of suggesting the possibility of election-related problems and as the race for the Republican nomination against leading opponent Karrin Taylor Robson has tightened.
