Eloy’s Dust Bowl Theatre to be demolished

ELOY — After months of debate and discussion concerning the future of a former Main Street staple, the Eloy City Council voted 6-1 to demolish the Dust Bowl Theatre.

During Monday’s meeting, the council was given an update on the appraisal of the building, after it was requested by councilmembers in a previous meeting.

The appraisal showed that the rundown building holds little to no value if it were to be renovated and refurbished.

After careful discussion from the council, the motion to demolish the theater was passed, with Councilmember Jose Garcia being the only recorded “no” vote.

“I made it a point that we needed to take care of it, so I kept my word and I wanted to do it before this current council expired,” Eloy Mayor Micah Powell said. “The decision was long overdue, but it needed to be made.
