The city of Surprise is ready to move forward on its low-income senior housing project in the Original Town Site.
And it couldn’t come soon enough for Surprise Council Member Ken Remley, who serves the area in District 2.
“This is a proud moment,” Remley said at the March 21 City Council meeting. “This project sets the bar for what a city is doing about the homeless situation and about the low-income housing situation that we’ve heard about all over this country. For the West Valley, we are setting the bar.”
Ground is expected to be broken soon on the $23 million Heritage Senior Apartments development at 15627 N. Nash St. at the intersection with Santa Fe Avenue. It’s expected to be completed by December 2024.
It’s just south of the low-income Heritage Apartments, which opened in 2021, and will be next to the planned Multigenerational Community Resource Center, which is scheduled to open in 2025.
It’s designed for low-income seniors who are 62 and older and also at or below 50% of the area’s median income. Veterans and Surprise residents will have first dibs on getting a room.
