Yuma supervisors deny land use change

Property owners lost their chance to split their parcels of land and sell them for development of new homes.

Although they’ve lived on the Somerton property, the 4-acre parcel belonging to Raymond and Norma Lopez is now in the aircraft noise and potential accident zones of the Marine Corps Air Base, prohibiting the construction of new homes.

Following the recommendations of the Planning and Zoning Commission and staff, the Yuma County Board of Supervisors denied a request by the Lopezes to change the land use designation of the parcel located at the northeast corner of the vicinity of County 16th Street and Valencia Avenue from agriculture/industrial to rural density residential.
