Top issues for Florence mayoral candidates

By Janet Perez | Your Valley

With incumbent Mayor Tara Walter not seeking reelection, two candidates are on the hunt for the wide-open seat.

Former Florence Council Member Michelle Cordes and former Florence Community Development Director/Fire Marshal Keith Eaton will be facing off in the July 30 primary.

On March 28, Cordes resigned from the council and announced her run for mayor. Since she resigned less than 30 days before the election filing deadline, under state statute Florence could not hold a special election to fill her seat. Instead, the council appointed Cathy Adam to the empty seat after interviewing nine other candidates.

Walter opted not to run for reelection and is instead campaigning for the Pinal County Schools superintendent position.

The Florence Independent sent the candidates a questionnaire to find out their plans for the town.
