Phoenix prepares Central Ave property for development

The city of Phoenix rezoned a city-owned parcel at the southeast corner of Central Avenue and Broadway Road to prepare it for sale and development as a mixed-use project.

The 5.5-acre vacant lot was zoned as a mix of several different zoning designations, a blend of multifamily and commercial. Phoenix City Council rezoned it on Wednesday to one cohesive zoning: a medium-intensity designation under the city’s Walkable Urban Code with a zoning overlay specific to the South Phoenix Village.

Stipulations the city attached to the rezoning require a mix of residential and non-residential uses, with a minimum of 4,000 square feet of non-residential uses along Central Avenue.
