An IRS letter announcing last year’s federal stimulus check

Nearly 3.5 million Arizona households shared in just under $6 billion from last year’s first round of stimulus payments that the federal government disbursed to combat the economy-slowing measures of battling the coronavirus pandemic.
Payments from the stimulus round authorized by Congress in March and distributed through the end of 2020 averaged about $1,699 per household in Arizona, the Internal Revenue Service reported Jan. 26. Depending on income, individuals were eligible for up to $1,200 per person (or $2,400 per married couple), plus $500 per qualifying child.
Payments were sent to the employed as well as retirees and others who didn’t file federal income-tax returns. About 30% of the Arizona recipients received payments for qualifying children, while the other 70% didn’t. Some 3.48 million Arizona households shared $5.92 billion from the first stimulus round.
National average of $1,676
