White House wanted to talk to Attorney General Mark Brnovich after Trump’s Arizona defeat

Attorney General Mark Brnovich

In the wake of last year’s election, the Trump White House wanted to talk to Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich about election fraud, text messages from former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows reveal.

It is unclear if that contact ever happened. Brnovich’s office did not respond Monday to requests for comment about whether the White House ever got through to him and, if it did, what specifically was discussed.

One of the numerous texts showed messages “to and from a member of Congress” seeking contact information for Brnovich, according to a 51-page document released Sunday by the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Politico first reported on the matter; its report did not provide any detail on the identity of that member of Congress. The texts showed efforts to rally support for pro-Trump forces both in public protests as well as in statehouses around the country after Trump’s defeat in the 2020 election, according to Politico. They also showed the alarm lawmakers, as well as members of Trump’s own family, had about the violence unspooling at the Capitol on Jan. 6, as they pleaded for Meadows to get Trump to tell the mob to back down.
