FLORENCE — More than 120 guests heard updates on the local and state economy and housing development April 14 at a “State of the Town” breakfast, hosted by the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce.
Jose Castillo with D.R. Horton Homes said his company and LGI Homes will build 1,500 houses in Florence in the next two years. He said plentiful local water and a future north-south freeway make the town “very well-positioned for growth.” The town is forecasting approximately 3,500 new homes in the next five years.
Rick Tayrien with LGI, which is building Sunrise Estates Phase II and Bisbee Ranch in the downtown area, said the company can’t build houses fast enough and must now cut back on its sales program. He said there’s not enough labor to keep up with demand. Tayrien said LGI is trying to keep home prices as low as possible so buyers don’t have to bear the cost of supply chain shortages and labor shortages.
