Scottsdale’s transportation department has a project in the works that will offer northern city residents a new roadway — in addition of Scottsdale and Pima roads — to get to their destination.
However, residents and representatives for one longstanding neighborhood are asking for compromise and sound mitigation before approval is given to extend Miller Road.
The Development Review Board is expected to vote on Thursday, Sept. 1, to approve a street improvement project to complete a four-lane Miller Road connection between Pinnacle Peak and Happy Valley roads. The vote was continued from a July meeting, when DRB members asked several questions about the project that they wanted answers to.
The project, city officials say, has been included in municipal planning and documents since 1991. Neighbors in the area, however, say the common belief among residents was that this project was unlikely to come to fruition. The Miller Road extension is included in the new general plan, and in the city’s 2016 transportation master plan.
At its core, the $19.8 million project is set to provide a vehicular and pedestrian bridge crossing over the Rawhide Wash; it will tie into the recently approved Rawhide Wash Flood Hazard Mitigation project, currently being completed by the Flood Control District as a separately funded project.
