Boom in Casa Grande economy no fluke, says mayor

By Jodie Newell | Pinal Central

CASA GRANDE — Mayor Craig McFarland says the town’s burgeoning economy is no fluke, but rather a result of sound governance, foresight from previous city leaders and the community.

McFarland made his comments to PinalCentral following a remarkable week of economic news for the area, which included the announcement of a potentially large copper deposit find at Cactus Mine, a new semiconductor chemical plant by LCY Electronic Materials and a new, upscale Marriott Hotel at the Promenade shopping center.

“We are fortunate that our previous councils, local business leaders and economic developers had a vision or base for the future,” he said. “If you look back in history with the industrial park area, that was honestly all done with Mr. (Donovan) Kramer Sr. and his group of economic development folks. That area is a perfect example and I’m not surprised at all at the level of economic activity there (on the west side).”

McFarland added that Casa Grande was perfectly positioned in providing key transportation routes for supply and distribution for local manufacturing industries.
