Coolidge commission approves Brittlebush Solar Facility

COOLIDGE — The Coolidge Planning and Zoning Commission approved a major site plan for a 1,242-acre solar facility between Bartlett and Kleck Roads along State Route 87 that will be known as Brittlebush Solar Park.

The project, which covers agricultural, urban neighborhood and industrial-permitted land under the city’s current general plan, was approved for a conditional use permit by the City Council back in 2018, according to Commissioner Shane Leonard. At that time, the project was submitted by Pinal Land Holdings under the name “Randolph Solar,” according to Coolidge Senior Planner Phil Garthright.

In Leonard’s own words, the commission’s approval on Dec. 7 was rather clerical — “you’ve already bought the car,” he said. “Now it’s just getting to choose the color.”
