Cave creek town council resolves to oppose solar fee hikes

Cave Creek has come forward to be the first municipality in Arizona to officially oppose proposed Arizona Public Service Co. rate hikes for solar-panel users.

The utility company has proposed charging customers who install rooftop solar panels as much as $100 or more a month to cover the cost of maintaining the power grid.

Vice Mayor Adam Trenk, who initiated the resolution, said the proposed changes would take away the financial incentive for using solar and hurt the local economy.

APS is asking for state-sanctioned, consumer-funded corporate welfare, he said.
