The incident: “The shooting happened Sunday evening” around Yuma Rd and 237th Ln. “Officers reportedly found a man inside a home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and three other individuals who were not injured.” The man “died on the scene.”

The investigation: A “mother and her two adult children were home when they heard someone banging on their door… [A] man in the home retrieved a gun and went to the door as the subject broke through the security door and stepped inside. Officials said that is when the man shot the intruder.”

The insight: Joshua Austin, litigator & criminal law attorney at Rose Law Group, talks to 12News about Arizona’s ‘Castle Doctrine,’ which “presumes a person is justified in using deadly force against someone unlawfully entering one’s home” — “that the person perceives an immediate threat and must protect himself their family and property.”
