Five things to watch this week at the Capitol

Gov. Katie Hobbs lifted her bill moratorium Friday, clearing the way for the Legislature to resume voting on bills.

But, while the Senate plans a return to finish its remaining work in the coming weeks, the House will remain on its extended recess until June 1, according to the House Republican spokesman.

Meanwhile, the primary debates will continue this week with the candidates for the Arizona Corporation Commission and a couple of legislative districts squaring off.

Here are five things to watch this week:

Senate gets back to work
The Senate returned to the floor on Monday newly refreshed to finalize any remaining bills left over from the governor’s bill moratorium. The chamber scheduled two Committee of the Whole meetings and a third read hearing with about a dozen bills on the agenda. One notable is House Bill 2308, an anti-corruption measure which would prohibit dental insurers or a holding company of a dental insurer from owning a business organization offering public professional services regulated by the Arizona Board of Dental Examiners. Rep. Jeff Weninger filed the legislation. Later this week, the Senate Natural Resources and Senate Education committees will meet to nominate the governor’s appointees to several boards, including the Arizona Board of Regents.
