Voters in the Town of San Tan Valley are electing a Town Council for the first time, and the July 21 primary could decide all seven seats.
Election Day is Tuesday, July 21, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Early ballots went out to registered voters June 24, and early voting is underway. Voters can cast a ballot in person at the San Tan Valley Recorder’s Office, 31505 N. Schnepf Road, Bldg. A. Completed early ballots can be dropped off at two locations: the ballot drop box at the Recorder’s Office and the ballot drop box at the San Tan Valley County Health Department, 36235 N. Gantzel Road.
The council race appears only on ballots for voters who live inside the town limits. Residents of the unincorporated San Tan Valley area, which is governed by Pinal County, are not part of the town election.
You Do Not Have to Vote for Seven
The ballot lists eight candidates and tells voters they may choose up to seven, with blank lines for write-in votes. Seven is a limit, not a requirement.
A ballot counts no matter how many choices it carries. A voter can:
- Vote for one candidate
- Vote for a few
- Vote for a full seven
- Write in a qualified candidate without marking any printed name
- Mix printed names and a write-in, up to seven choices in all
Every one of those ballots is valid and every vote on it is counted.
