Barber, Grijalva move to delay Rosemont Mine

Arizona congressmen Raúl Grijalva and Ron Barber are attempting to prevent, once again, the opening of the Rosemont Mine. Grijalva, who is opposed to any mining anywhere, and Barber, who is aligned closely with the pecan growers who would compete with Rosemont for water, hoped to delay a final Environmental Impact Statement.

The two sent a letter to Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, urging the Forest Service, which is under the authority of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), not to release a final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on the proposed Rosemont Mine project near Tucson.
