Businesses will be involved in design of rules and fees

Maricopa County soon will step up the involvement of industries it regulates in the process of creating rules and fees that affect them.
The county Board of Supervisors on Monday unanimously directed its staff to come up with a new policy making it easier for those seeking regulatory permits, businesses ranging from gravel mining to dry-cleaning services, to be involved in public meetings or hearings regarding county regulations.
The new policy will become effective in January.
The new approach is expected to solicit more involvement and feedback from citizens and those the regulations affect.
It requires the county to hold more public hearings on proposed regulatory changes and to increase efforts to notify the public about meetings on matters of interest.
