Salt River Project has released a map showing a potential route that high-voltage power lines might take through the Gila River Reservation.
This route still must receive approval from multiple agencies, but it could serve as an alternative to the often-criticized proposed routes through south Chandler and Sun Lakes neighborhoods.
The step toward this path through reservation land does not change the time line for SRP to seek approval on the two Chandler route alternatives, SRP spokesman Scott Harelson said.
The District 4 community and Community Council passed motions of support for the proposed route through the Gila River Reservation, but it must still be approved by landowners, the Community Council and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, SRP reported on its website.
