Solar takes off in Yavapai County

More homeowners are installing solar panels, motivated by incentives and rebates and a desire to cut their electricity bills.

In Prescott Valley, contractors took out 15 permits for solar installations in September, according to Community Development Director Richard Parker.

Parker said he has seen a steady increase in installations over the past 18 months to two years. He credits advances in solar technologies, rebates from the private sector and tax incentives.

His counterpart at Yavapai County Development Services, Steve Mauk, noticed a similar trend over the past 18 months. Mauk said the county has issued 10 to 15 permits a month for solar installations in that timeframe.
