Queen Creek is preparing to take over service for H2O Inc., after voters earlier this year approved the move. Among the town’s biggest tasks: explaining to the utility customers, especially those in Pinal County, that the takeover does not mean their neighborhood has been annexed.
The Queen Creek Town Council in June approved the $44 million purchase of the private water company. Queen Creek residents voted 2,550-379 to approve the deal a month earlier. The takeover affects about 9,500 customers in a 23-square-mile area bounded by Germann Road, Schnepf Road, Empire Boulevard and Hash Knife Draw Road and Signal Butte and Crismon roads.
The transition will not change the quality of water service, the town said, and the rates will match current rates paid by Queen Creek customers. This means that the monthly rates for most customers, those using 7,500-10,000 gallons of water per month, will remain unchanged.
The takeover affects nothing beyond water service for those customers who live outside Queen Creek’s boundaries, the town said.
