Glendale officials to decide fate of billboard proposal

The Glendale Planning Commission will vote Dec. 5 on a proposal to plant two billboards near Bell Road and Loop 101 near the Glendale-Peoria border.

The plans have met a barrage of opposition from residents in both cities who say the billboards would lower their property values, lead to more billboards and destroy the neighborhood feel. The 85-foot billboards are proposed along the northwest corner of Bell Road and the freeway, a commercial area near neighborhoods.

Peoria officials are opposed to the boards, while Glendale leaders have expressed differing opinions.

About 30 people attended a Planning Commission workshop on Thursday, Nov. 7, as the panel discussed the plans. A Glendale City Council meeting with discussion of the city’s billboard policy drew a similar turnout in September.
