Instead of running for office again, former state Rep. Terri Proud is putting her support behind a conservative trio of Republicans in the state Legislature.
Proud, a Republican from Tucson, represented Legislative District 26 – which included parts of northern Pima County and southern Pinal County – from 2009-10.
Proud found herself in hot water over comments she made earlier this year after she said it could be problematic for women to serve in the military due to their menstrual cycles. The comments made national news, and she was fired from her job as administrative assistant for the Department of Veterans Services.
In October, Proud filed an $800,000 notice of claim – a precursor to a lawsuit – against the State and blamed Gov. Jan Brewer for getting her fired for political purposes.
