Thunderbird alumni in revolt over school’s venture

Twenty years ago, Merle Hinrich flew out from Asia to dedicate a new library at the Thunderbird School of Global Management, the graduate school from which he earned a master’s degree in 1965.

A gift of more than $1 million by the Nebraska native turned Hong Kong businessman was instrumental in completing the facility at the heart of the Glendale campus.

“It is an exciting project,” Hinrich said at the time, referring to the library bearing his name. “I’m pleased to be a part of it.”

Now, he’s not so sure.
