The good Tempe (and bad) old days are back in Tempe

Looks like the good old days are back in downtown Tempe.
Though construction virtually ceased during the Great Recession, leaving several key parcels in limbo, developers are again showing interest in the area. There’s a spate of urban, mixed-use projects heading to the
City Council.
It’s like 2005 all over again — but with one key exception. This time, incentives are on the table.
It looked like we’d ditched that playbook, at least for a while. The previous mayor and City Council had decided the only projects to get breaks would be those that provided needed infrastructure, environmental cleanup or historical preservation.
