Arizona residents have a far more limited availability of government employees than almost every other state in the country.
Arizona has the 44th largest, or sixth smallest, ratio of local government employees per 1,000 residents, according to a Business First analysis of statistics released this week by the U.S. Census Bureau.
The Annual Survey of Public Employment and Payroll Data counts the number of workers for cities, villages, towns, special districts and school districts. The report issued this week is based on data collected in March 2014.
