Unfounded rumors about closing of Coolidge training center

The city is openly opposing any proposed closure of the Arizona Training Program at Coolidge, but confirmation of such a possibility is difficult to find.

Recently, Mayor Jon Thompson had visitors who have family members either employed or residents of the state home south of town for people with developmental disabilities. The visitors said they had been informed that big changes were on the horizon for the facility and its residents.

State Rep. T.J. Shope, R-Coolidge, said he hadn’t heard a thing about any bill or plan to close the facility.
