Biogas company wants to build plant in Florence

Modern biogas plant under construction/dreamtime

By Mark Cowling | Pinal Central

A company wants to turn Florence waste into energy.

Town staff plan to begin negotiating a development agreement with Alkeme LLC and associated parties for development of a biogas operation.

Town Manager Brent Billingsley told the City Council at its meeting this week that the company wants to use material from the town’s wastewater treatment plants “for a positive purpose.”

He said a company representative was unable to attend Tuesday’s meeting due to a grand opening of another business of his in the Valley, but an Alkeme representative will attend to discuss the company’s plans at the next council meeting.

Biogas refers to generating electrical power from treated sewage, food and farm waste and crop biomass.
