The Diamondbacks must have felt like they were at a high school reunion on Sunday. But only if everyone there took you behind the auditorium and beat you up.
With several of their past trades and former players doing the heavy lifting, the Diamondbacks suffered another crushing defeat at the hands of the Atlanta Braves at Chase Field. They lost three of four in the series and four of six on the homestand.
After the Diamondbacks rallied to take a lead in the sixth, right-hander Brad Boxberger entered the ninth with a one-run lead and allowed back-to-back singles to Tyler Flowers and Ozzie Albies.
Ender Inciarte, who played two seasons with the Diamondbacks from 2014-15, hit a three-run home run just a few pitches later to put the Braves back in front for good. The Braves wound up winning the game by a 9-5 final.
“Ender got a mistake out over the plate and did what he was supposed to do,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “That was probably the last thing I was thinking and I think it was probably the last thing everyone in the dugout was thinking.”
