Mesa investigating after voters hit with deceptive text messages aimed to confuse

Many Mesa voters got text messages last week suggesting they were from “Democrats for Mayor John Giles,” which should’ve been an indicator something was fishy. The mayor is a Republican.

The text message, sent to an unknown swath of voters, appears to be aimed at confusing voters about the city’s “home rule” question on the Nov. 6 ballot.

Now, the Mesa Clerk’s Office is investigating if the texts violated state election law.
