Gilbert spends millions to reopen Big League Dreams as Cactus Yards

Gilbert’s Big League Dreams is now called Cactus Yards and will reopen Feb. 9 under the town’s control.

Gilbert spent $42.7 million to open the youth sports facility in 2008 and abruptly closed it more than a year ago citing safety concerns. The town then terminated its contract with the private operator, Big League Dreams Gilbert. The two have been in a court fight ever since, primarily over facility upkeep. The town also never received the revenues anticipated.

The venue, near Power and Elliot roads, boasts eight small replicas of Major League Baseball fields and stadiums, an indoor soccer pavilion, batting cages, a playground and restaurants.
