Three solar projects currently being considered for inclusion in a potential bond election would substantially increase Scottsdale’s renewable energy generating capacity and help the city catch up with other Valley municipalities that have outpaced it in recent years.
Three solar projects currently being considered for inclusion in a potential bond election would substantially increase Scottsdale’s renewable energy generating capacity and help the city catch up with other Valley municipalities that have outpaced it in recent years.
The three projects would cost nearly $12.3 million and include new photovoltaic solar systems at the city’s North Corporation Campus, City Hall parking lot and on buildings throughout the Civic Center.
The city is also considering a smaller fourth project that would double the solar-generating capacity at Appaloosa Library.
The city estimates that the new projects could save the city over $500,000 per year in energy costs and the city could see a return on investment in 10 to 20 years, depending on the project.
