All-Star pitcher Zack Greinke’s run with the Arizona Diamondbacks is over after the team agreed to trade him to the Houston Astros on Wednesday in exchange for four prospects.
The Athletic’sKen Rosenthal broke the news of Greinke being dealt to Houston, while ESPN’s Jeff Passan added that the 35-year-old will be had at the price of four prospects. 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro reported Arizona acquired first baseman/outfielder Seth Beer, right-handed pitcher J.B. Bukauskas, right-handed pitcher Corbin Martin and infielder/outfielder Joshua Rojas.
They are all top-20 prospects in the Astros’ system, according to Baseball America.
The D-backs will pay $24 million of the remaining $77 million owed to Greinke, Gambadoro reports.
According to Gambadoro, the D-backs saw Martin as the top player they wanted in the trade. He had Tommy John recently and will be out through the end of next year, but he’s nonetheless a highly-coveted player who the D-backs tried to acquire six months ago.
