Mesa, Salt River Tribe look to replace bridge

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The city of Mesa and Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community are considering a $2 million effort to replace the Gilbert Road Bridge that connects to State Route 87.

The bridge is just north of the Loop 202 over the Salt River in the East Valley. Mesa City Council will consider approving a $1 million allocation to replace the aging bridge. The Salt River community would chip in the other $1 million.

The allocation is on the Mesa Council’s agenda today.

Maricopa County is slated to serve as the construction manager for the project. Replacement of the bridge is expected to take 18 months to complete with construction and other contracts still to go through the procurement process.
