The Phoenix City Council has approved lease extension with American Greyhound Racing Inc. at the former dog racing track on Washington Street near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

The city-owned property has been used as a popular swap meet.

Dog racing ended at the Phoenix track in 2009. The state passed a law banning greyhound dog racing in 2016.

The council approved a five-year lease extension. The city is slated to get more than $4.77 million in rental revenue from the lease.
