The U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee released the Build America 250 Act, a new surface transportation reauthorization bill that will provide significant federal funding for improvements to infrastructure nationwide. While the bill is federal, it carries significant implications for Arizona’s state and local transportation systems.
The bill focuses on improving the safe and efficient movement of goods, people, and freights across the country and proposes a $674 billion funding in transportation to modernize roads, bridges, rail, and transit systems.
Key Highlights of this Bill:
Bridge Formula Program funding jumps from $5.5 billion to $9 billion per year and includes a new 25-percent set-aside for locally owned bridges.
The bill grows the Surface Transportation Block Grant program, which sub-allocates a significant share of funds regionally for use on locally identified projects.
The Safe Streets for All (SS4A) grant program is preserved, continuing a successful grant program that is designed for counties and other local governments.
The PROTECT grant program is preserved – a top priority for counties on the front lines of disaster resilience and climate-related infrastructure challenges
