Today, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors appointed Jevin Hodge to fill the Arizona House of Representatives vacancy in Legislative District 8.
“I first met Jevin Hodge when we ran against each other for the District 1 Maricopa County Board of Supervisors seat back in 2020,” said Chairman Jack Sellers. “I narrowly won that race, but Mr. Hodge proved to be a tough opponent. I was impressed by his commitment to bettering his community, in particular Tempe where he grew up. I believe his experience and his passion for his community make him an ideal candidate to represent Legislative District 8.”
Hodge previously served as the President of the Tempe Union High School Education Foundation. He was the National Engagement Director for Link Strategic Partners, and chair of the Booker T. Washington Child Development Center. He has served as an advisory board member for the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition. Hodge was a recipient of the NAACP Roy Wilkins Service Award and the City of Tempe MLK Diversity Award.
“Jevin Hodge has proven himself to be an independent thinker and business advocate who puts community wellbeing ahead of politics,” said Vice Chairman Thomas Galvin. “I appreciated his thoughtful answers to my questionnaire, and I believe he will be a voice of reason and a potential consensus builder at the state capitol.”
Board members selected Hodge from a list of three candidates submitted by the LD-8 precinct committeemen, in accordance with Arizona law. The candidates had to live in the district and be a member of the same party as the person who vacated the office. In this case, a Democrat.
Hodge will serve the remainder of the term through December 31st, 2024. This position is on the ballot in the November 5th, 2024 General Election.
