Several local government leaders attended a June 27 groundbreaking for what’s billed as a housing project with a new type of funding.
The city of Chandler and Gorman & Co. jointly announced the groundbreaking development of Villas on McQueen. In a news release, the Villas is called Chandler’s first public housing project converted through the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Rental Assistance Demonstration program.
The complex is at 77 N. McQueen Road at the corner of McQueen Road and East Trails End Place in Chandler, near the southeast corner of McQueen Road and Chandler Boulevard.
Maricopa County District 1 Supervisor and former Chandler City Council member Jack Sellers and Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke, were both at the groundbreaking. So were several other city staff who were involved in the project.
“Today’s milestone has been years in the making,” said Hartke. “We are one step closer to modernizing our aging housing facilities and providing much-needed housing options for families and seniors in Chandler. I’m thankful for our city staff and our partners for their diligent work to get us to this point.”
